Average Reviews:
(More customer reviews)All right, reviews for these 'not a shoe' shoes are scattered all over the place since there are different sellers.I picked mine up from Norway Sports (of California) because of their special offer. No complaints about the seller-- they were prompt, their special offers were applied, and shipping was faster than expected.
About the product: I was pleasantly surprised.I was hoping to get some casual black shoes for everyday wear, and it worked well enough, lookwise. You'd be asking for frowns aplenty wearing them to an important meeting, or even a nice restaurant, but apparently the company has a slightly more 'upscale' design as well. That would be my default choice next time. The way this particular style looks, it would definitely be more at home on the beach, in spite of being leather instead of canvas. At the risk of sounding totally L-7, I typically describe their appearance as 'funky.'Like sandals, the soles are huge and take a little getting used to when you're thinking shoes.
Also, I ordered the shoes in black. In spite of the fact that they look more bluish in the photo. They're also bluish in real life, but it's because of a 'speckled' effect. At any rate, the picture doesn't lie, whether it's termed black or not.And in the photos, 'chocolate' looks a bit more traditional.
Comfort?Yeah. It really does feel like a pair of slippers.Because of another review, I ordered a size down, rather than up, from my usual half size.A bit snug at first, but they stretched out very quickly, and after a day's worth of breaking in (going for a long walk), I haven't had reason to complain since. But I wouldn't try wearing them with thick socks in winter.Unlike the review I read, they don't run particularly large, so although they will stretch a bit, keep that in mind when you're deciding how they're going to be used. They feel wonderful, and their whole spiel about 'looks like a pump, feels like a sneaker'-- oops, wrong ad campaign-- is true. They're incredibly comfortable, and I'm already looking to get a less casual-looking pair.
One caveat: the Sanuk site boasts that all of their products are handmade. But when my pair arrived, they had been made in China. So they're *technically* handmade, but that's a little sleazy, given the company's aggressively hippie/surfer marketing. If they weren't producing such an excellent product, I'd call them shysters.Unfortunately, when I wear them in public I feel like I'm pulling a fast one on every other pedestrian I see, because I've got pillows under my feet and they don't.And I'm addicted.I'll buy again, undoubtedly, but I'll still feel a little bad about it.
